Peeranha: Technology in everyday communication

Have you ever been thinking of how often do you check your phone? The survey finds that the average person picks up their phone 75 times a day and despite the increased phone usage, nearly half of Americans say their smartphones actually help them achieve more work-life balance, not less. Indeed, it has become obvious that there are two sides of the same coin. Thus, whether we like it or not, the future is coming and in today’s modern world, technology has a great influence on our everyday lives.

We do understand that innovations in science go hand in hand with innovations in technology. So let’s examine this situation a little more closely and get back to the 19th century when electronic devices had not been invented. People could only use printed words such as books or newspapers, to gather information. Later on, in the 20th century, televisions, radios, and especially computers helped us a lot to know what is happening all around the world, more easily. Now, the creation of the internet made it possible to get gigabytes of information, just with one click!

Experts often argue that the internet is not only evolving but revolutionizing our lives and we cannot deny the fact that digital is everywhere. Rob Reich, professor of political science at Stanford University, said, “If the baseline for making a projection about the next today is the current level of benefit/harm of digital life, then I am willing to express a confident judgment that the next decade will bring a net harm to people’s well-being. The massive and undeniable benefits of digital life — access to knowledge and culture — have been mostly realized. The harms have begun to come into view just over the past few years, and the trend line is moving consistently in a negative direction. I am mainly worried about corporate and governmental power to surveil users (attendant loss of privacy and security), about the degraded public sphere and its new corporate owners that care not much for sustaining democratic governance.” I do partially agree with this statement, as I am a user too and I do realize how tricky the internet could be. Besides, back in a 2018 study, the Identity Theft Resource Center found that approximately 52 percent of respondents shared personally-identifying information through social media sites, so it looks like we still have a lot to think about.

On the other hand, it should also be remembered that the internet, like all technologies, does not produce effects by itself. Our team considers it a tool that can still help us to shape our society and improve the quality of our lives. It can always provide us with up-to-date data, so we can get information on the most recent discoveries or inventions, and stay connected with people within seconds. Yes, the modes and methods are changing but how can we not be excited about the possibilities it offers?

I believe that technology is there to help and make things easier, not to control every aspect of our lives. There are still so many possibilities of how we can use it and thankfully, more and more internet websites tend to come along with proper and secure methods to keep users safe. We on our part are willing to keep Peeranha a safe and helpful place for our users: where everyone has the same opportunities and keeps the same values.

Furthermore, as we have been talking a lot about how technologies affect our life and time, we would also like to share a few updates we have been working on to simplify our users’ lives. So, here’s a short summary of what we’ve been up to:

Recently, we’ve launched the first Peeranha`s Telegram bot! We want to help our users to be notified about new questions on the platform- a bot that posts a message in the Telegram group when a new question is asked on Peeranha. Moreover, very soon we will make it possible to ask and answer questions only by using our Telegram bot. Additionally, to provide more visibility for any member, the notification format has also been changed. Now, there is no need to open each post manually and check if anyone answered, commented, or voted. All of the notifications are available in one place and all questions are displayed directly on the Telegram channel. We believe that it can save you heaps of time and keep a possibility to share your knowledge and earn Peer tokens more easily.

More great updates and new features are coming, as we are certain that only through our joint efforts and hard work we can achieve significant results! So, stay tuned for more updates and share your thoughts on our Telegram bot:)
